About the author

Dr. Karly Way Dr. Karly Way earned her Ph.D. in Sociology at American University in Washington, D.C. and M.A. in Psychology at Goddard College.  A social psychologist by training, she completed her Social Psychology coursework at the University of Maryland - College Park.

Dr. Way has been teaching full-time at Yavapai College in Arizona since Fall 2003. Her regular courses include introductory psychology, sociology, interpersonal communication, and mind-body yoga.

"I love the students and small classes on our campus," she remarks. "When I was an undergrad, I so craved to have a professor take a special interest in me and really care about my future, to notice my talents and abilities. That's what I try to do for my own students, especially those who are just starting their college careers and are earnestly trying to better their lives. I am a strong believer in the empowering effects of education, in giving one greater opportunities for success."

Her volunteer activities reflect her love of interpersonal communication, the social sciences and compassion for others. Her two dogs, Thurston and Lovey, are pet therapy dogs and volunteer for Hospice of the Valley and John C. Lincoln Hopsital in Phoenix. In addition, she serves on the Board of Directors for the Verde Valley Guidance Center in Cottonwood, Arizona.

When not teaching college courses, Karly teaches mind-body yoga, yoga for seniors and yoga dance at a variety of venues in Phoenix and fashions jewelry and accessories from recycled objects. She is currently hard at work, writing a third book for her Path of Yoga class. You can read her blog from her recent trip to India at http://karlysinindia.blogspot.com.
